Perentorio – Exhibition in Siboney Gallery
This is the first collaboration of the Madrid artist Lau Rodriguez, based in Cantabria, with the Siboney gallery in Santander. For the occasion, she presents an ambitious project titled “Peremptory.” It brings together painting, drawing, and sculpture. These elements are related to each other. It is unclear whether the paintings, sculptures, or drawings are sketches. However, they undoubtedly take us to a universe of mysterious fables.
The critic Gabriel Rodríguez said of Lau Rodríguez’s work, «…she is a painter who seems to have a direct connection with form and colour. It is as if a precise impulse was transmitted through her fingers to the brush. The thought in the images slips easily, like a fluid, into the forms».
In Siboney’s solo exhibition, his paintings are reminiscent of certain unsettling Baroque still lifes. He presents us with a world of exuberant flora and fauna. These paintings show nature exploding and expressing itself. It overwhelms us while producing a powerful visual impact. This impact comes through the force of autonomous images that are installed and in dialogue with our imaginary universe.
