Dreams, lights and gods

Dreams, lights and gods

- 2026 -

Amidst the turmoil, we find pauses, surprises and gifts that resonate emotionally and fill us with sensitivity in equal measure. Such is the work presented to us by Lau Rodríguez. It is impossible not to want to lose oneself and find oneself in any of his creations.
As a multidisciplinary artist, she presents us with a magical, solid and conclusive work, with different forms of dialogue, materials, dimensions and volumes. This compact and immense exhibition allows us to appreciate, through drawing, painting and sculpture, a world connected in the same way that her works are connected to each other.
Everything revolves around a living and exuberant nature, inhabited by chimerical animals that no one usually notices — but which are still recognisable in essence — and extreme plants with vibrant colours.
The sculptures take on a presence in the space on their own, mixing ceramics, natural plants and organic matter. They are pieces that complete and perfect the meaning of the rest of his drawings and paintings. They embody the same figurative fusion, with characters and elements that contribute to a cohesion and resonance that allows us to recognise his language and style in an undeniable way.

Duality makes sense when we analyse what we see.
On the one hand, we can be a curious observer who enters into dialogue with the animal in front of us, which looks at us directly, honestly, emerging from a burst of vegetation, with a house on its head, similar to the one we carry on ours, which inevitably provokes a mixture of memories, experiences, ideas, fears… which, ultimately, confirm that we are the same.
On the other hand, this duality can also lead us to identify ourselves as a reflection from the other side and imagine ourselves looking at the luminescent satellite that features in some of his compositions with the fascination and courage of a child who has infiltrated this landscape full of animals and surrounded by visitors, without fear or hesitation.
In all his works, Lau takes us to vivid scenes, full of light: either direct light or the glimmer of a greater light that does not appear, but can be guessed at. Fireflies, the moon, the reflection in the bells are the common threads that make the whole exhibition perfectly articulated and full of expressive force. There can be no life without light. The objects and animals are repeated and move from one work to another, communicating and adding, if possible, more layers of meaning.

The fish, the egg, the totem, the reflections, the plants, the bugs, the sparkles in the eyes of each of these hybrid animals… everything comes together to create a deeply original symbiotic harmony, where each element makes sense within an orderly chaos. The magnitude of the works, even the smaller ones, becomes colossal, promising us, in a disenchanted world, that all flourishing is mutual.
